Youth For Christ Rochester Announces The Hiring of Michael Hennessy As Executive Director
Updated: Feb 8
(ROCHESTER, NY ) - The Directors of Rochester Youth For Christ are pleased to announce the hiring of Michael Hennessy as Executive Director. Many will know Michael from his work as Executive Director at Open Door Mission (2011-17).
2020 marks the 75th Anniversary of Youth For Christ in Rochester, which provides vital services for our city’s youth from its strategically located headquarters at 1 Favor St. downtown, a building originally built as RIT’s first sports complex.
Our gym is home to YFC’s All Star Basketball, and the building also hosts the Parent Life program for pregnant teens as well as a new computer learning and tutoring center. These programs are especially important at a time when Covid-19 has caused Rochester City schools and Rec Centers to either shut down or operate at severely reduced capacity.
“I am extremely honored to be given the opportunity to build on Youth For Christ’s strong legacy of helping our city’s youth become champions for Christ, especially in these very challenging times,” says Hennessy. “Only through Faith can our city overcome a chronic culture of poverty, hopelessness and violence that continue to challenge our youth & communities.”
“My vision for YFC is that this strategic building, both geographically and spiritually, should be humming 24/7 w/the services and programs that our youth need. And we don’t need to re-create a dozen new programs, we just need to form strategic partnerships and collaborations with partners who are already showing excellent outcomes w/our city’s youth. One Favor St. should become a Hub and Spoke network with partnerships all over the region.”
As development and major donor relations officer at the Open Door Mission, Michael’s accomplishments included major upgrades of all facilities, programs and establishing the organization’s first housing program for women and children at Coldwater Rd. in Gates. He is also known for hosting “Good News Talk – Faith in the Marketplace” on WYSL 1040am/92.1fm Newstalk Radio.
“It would be my honor to share a glimpse of our new vision to make 1 Favor St. a comprehensive hub for all things Youth Services in our city…”
